Overview
Shape shifting defined the Chiefs.

Born into NPSL in 1967 and merged into NASL in 1968, the Atlantians hosted English Champions Manchester City for a series of friendlies. City Manager Malcolm Allison described the local talent as “Fourth division”. The Chiefs replied by beating his club twice.
In 1969 foreign clubs dressed as NASL teams for part of the season. Aston Villa posed as the Chiefs.
In 1973 the club was rebranded the Atlanta Apollos.
In 1974 the Apollos collapsed.
In 1979 Ted Turner purchased the cowboy attired Colorado Caribous, flew them to Atlanta, and the Chiefs rose again.
In 1981 the Chiefs vanished again.
Chiefs star Kaizer Motaung then took the name back to his native South Africa and formed top club Kaizer Chiefs.

Moral of this story: Difficult to extinguish is the spirit of the Chiefs.
