Overview
In 1947, an amateur St. Louis club changed sponsors from Correnti Cleaners to Joe Simpkins Ford - and altered the course of US soccer history.

In 1948 the club beat Joe Gaetjens and NY Brookhattan for their first US Open Cup title. In 1950 they won it all in hallowed Mark’s Stadium, hosted Manchester United and landed no fewer than five players on the US World Cup roster.

In 1955 Simpkins assembled a perfect 13-0-0 record in a new league, mounted another drive deep into the US Open Cup, and landed league MVP honors for Frank Borghi - the ’keeper made famous by shutting out the English five years before. In ‘56 Simpkins won their last league title.

When 1957 rolled around, Simpkins was out of the soccer business. This left General Motors and Chrysler their only foes.
